A combination of clay, sand and silt particles, predominantly sand. The sand minimizes compaction and improves drainage while clay and silt particles improve moisture retention. Sandy Loam soil don’t get quickly dried out as compared to pure sand, but also don’t get water-logged in. Applying 3-6 inches layer of composted animal manures, clay soil, wood chips, crops clippings, saw dust, leaves, silage and/or finely divided organic matter of any kind over the period, will decrease water evaporation and infiltration almost entirely, keeping moisture to normal and providing the required nutrients to soil and plants
